SINGAPORE : The PSI, or pollutant standards index, showed a reading of 81 as at 11 am on Friday as the haze persisted in Singapore.
Thursday's PSI hit a high of 95, almost in the unhealthy level, while the average reading was 61, the highest since the beginning of the year.
The National Environment Agency says the moderately hazy conditions are due to fire hot spots in Peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra.
Winds are blowing smoke haze from these areas.
It also added that some local bush fires are adding to the problem, although none have been reported so far on Friday.
And even though air pollution levels are not expected to go into the "unhealthy" range, the NEA is advising people with heart or respiratory ailments to take it slow, especially outdoors.
