SINGAPORE : The Singapore government has detained another member of the Jemaah Islamiyah group.
Thirty-five-year-old Jahpar Osman has been detained for two years, starting from Thursday.
The Home Affairs Ministry said he had been a member of the JI since the mid-90s and underwent military training in Mindanao in weapons-handling and bomb-making.
A statement from the ministry added that he was involved in discussions to carry out terrorist attacks against Singapore.
The government has released JI member Abdul Majid, who was issued with a Detention Order in September 2002.
He is under a Suspension Direction, which means he has to comply with some conditions, such as not leaving the country without the approval of the Internal Security Department.
Another ISA detainee, Faisel Abdullah Abdat, has been issued with a two-year Restriction Order.
This means that while he is no longer under detention, his activities and movements are restricted and he has to fulfill requirements such as continued religious counselling. - CNA /ct
