SINGAPORE : Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has congratulated British Prime Minister Tony Blair for his historic third term win in the UK General Elections.
In a letter to Mr Blair, Mr Lee said the win was a tribute to Mr Blair's steadfast leadership and the strong stand on the war in Iraq, and to his commitment to doing what was right for Britain and the world.
Mr Lee said the same conviction was needed among world leaders to fight against extremist terrorism.
He said he looked forward to Singapore and the UK working together to advance mutual interests and to make the world a safer place.
Mr Lee also expressed confidence in Britain's leadership of the G8 chairmanship and the next EU presidency.
He hoped that the process of economic integration between ASEAN and the EU would gather momentum.
Mr Lee also invited Mr and Mrs Blair to make an official visit to Singapore. - CNA /ct
