SINGAPORE : Students may have to pay more for private school bus rides from next year.
Operators said fares might be adjusted due to continued rise in fuel prices.
Students now pay between $30 to $80 a month for their school bus, depending on the length of the journey.
And this has remained unchanged for the past two years.
The last adjustment in January 2003 was due to sharp rises in insurance premiums.
And this time fares are likely to go up due to rising fuel prices.
Wong Ann Lin, Chairman of Singapore School Transport Association, said fuel prices had gone up from over 70 cents to $1.01 per litre.
He said the extra average cost per vehicle, depending on the size of the vehicle, is about $300 to $800 per month. - CNA/de
