Undergraduate accused of killing her baby walks free

SINGAPORE : A woman who had been accused of throwing her day-old baby down a rubbish chute walked free on Friday.
Prosecutors had applied for the charges of infanticide against her to be dropped, which the courts allowed.
On February 27 this year, a day-old baby girl was found dead in the rubbish chute of a block of flats in Toa Payoh.
Standing accused of her death was the baby's mother - 23-year-old undergraduate Koh Kailin.
Koh was charged with the rarely heard of offence of infanticide - which only applies to a woman who causes the death of her child under a year old.
An autopsy report has since found that the infant had died in the mother's womb at about 5 to 6 months of gestation.
After Koh gave birth, the body was then placed in a plastic bag and thrown into the common rubbish chute from the 18th floor of the block.
Koh, who is believed to be a Singapore Management University final year student, was said to be under duress, and not fully recovered from childbirth at the time of the incident.
On Friday, her neighbours said they have not yet seen her since her release.
One neighbour said, "My impression of her is that she is very friendly. When we meet her, she will say hi."
Another commented, "She is like a good girl. I don't think she will do such a thing." - CNA/ms -

That's why. I think she should have burried the baby instead of throwing it down so that she can save the trouble going to court and stuffs. Otherwise, ask someone (or the undertaker) to handle the death of the baby. Either the schools failed to teach moral education or she failed to learn.

tot when the foetus dies in the womb... its not possible to give birth to it 1... muz be done thru surgery... heard that for those giving birth naturally... the whole process is not onli done by the mother pushing herself... the baby does helps too as its moves... but in this case the foetus is died... how can she give birth??? unless my info is wrong lah...then its possible lor...

They are like giving people wrong impression that a woman who got pregnant unmarried & as long as the baby dies in the womb then she can throw it in the rubbish bin. Thats means the loophole is so long as the woman made the baby dies inside the womb & throw it away..she defn wont be convicted.

MY view:
She did something morally and sinful in the first place. Had sex before marriage and became pregnant. The 'unprepared' baby will not be in this world if she controlled her sexual desires and not had sex in the first place.
I think she and her bf deserves at least a heavy fine, their actions indirectly cause the death. -
Shall we not forget that for her impulsive decision to get impregnated by her ex boyfriend, she is a victim as well?
As it is, having delivered a foetus is already no mean feat for any woman physically and having to deliver and handle a dead one that is unwanted is a tremendous emotional & psychological blow.
Next, having to respond to social scrutiny is yet another mental torment that this frail girl may never be able to recover from. No one is born freed of the condemnation from a scarred conscience and a badly disfigured self-esteem especially after being deluded beyond hopes by a once-beloved man.
Hence, I applaud the decision made by the high court in not convicting a victim but to extend grace and mercy to another scarred soul.
A death of a foetus is one life lost but the purposeful destruction of another human life should not be advocated.
Let's not judge again on a sentence that has been passed? Who can understand fully what actually went on in her life, mind and heart? -
