SINGAPORE : Visitors to Sentosa can once again take the cable car to the island.
The service was stopped on June 1 when "inconsistencies" were detected in one of the cables during a maintenance check.
On Thursday at 9am, the cable cars took its first passengers from the Harbour Front Station.
Mount Faber Leisure Group, which runs it, said although the fault was minor, they were determined to bring in specialists and have the cables repaired to international safety standards.
Sharon Yap, Spokesperson for Mount Faber Leisure Group, said: "We found several damaged wires, but in comparison to the size of the cable, it is a very small percentage, and within the safety limit. But we wanted to have perfection and ensure that the cable is 100 percent safe."
Some tourists from Scotland were among the first to ride on the new service.
"I feel safe, we wouldn't take the children if we did not feel safe."
Besides the lost of income during the seven-week maintenance period, the group also incurred the cost of providing a free shuttle bus service to ferry visitors to Sentosa.
But the shuttle service paid dividends when more than 40 pre-bookings were received for the cable car's sky-dining experience.
Cable car rides are available from 8.30am to 9pm daily. - CNA/de
