S Chandra Das to step down as NTUC Fairprice chairman next month SINGAPORE : Mr S Chandra Das will step down as Chairman of NTUC FairPrice next month after 12 years at the helm.
Former Nominated Member of Parliament and Executive Board Member of the International Olympic Committee, Mr Ng Ser Miang will take over as head of the supermarket cooperative on September 16th at its annual general meeting.
Mr Das will be its Senior Advisor.
NTUC FairPrice said during Mr Das' term of office as Chairman, group turnover has almost tripled from S$484 million in 1993 to S$1.3 billion this year.
The number of stores also grew three-fold from 45 to 136.
Mr Ng Ser Miang has served on NTUC FairPrice's board of directors from 1993 to 1999.
He said he would uphold the social commitment that Mr Das has fulfilled during his term and maintain the co-operative's emphasis on food safety and quality. - CNA /ch
