SINGAPORE : The Defence Ministry says Singapore's contingent helping out in the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts has left Louisiana.
The RSAF detachment has been involved in re-supply and air-lifting missions since 2 September 2005.
In a statement, the Defence Ministry said the four Chinooks deployed have transported 540 tonnes of equipment, humanitarian supplies and sand and rescued over 800 evacuees.
LTC Kevin Rodrigues, Detachment Commander (Peace Prairie) said: "It's been an honour and a privilege to lead the RSAF detachment and carry Singapore's National Flag as well as work with the Texas Army National Guard in the Hurricane Katrina rescue and relief operations. It has also been a humbling experience seeing the amount of suffering, but we are happy to have been able to lend a hand in bringing relief to the victims."
