sbst275
SINGAPORE : Singapore has amended the Competition Act to allow the Competition Commission to carry out its enforcement duties effectively.
The amendments include allowing officers from the Commission to take any necessary steps to preserve evidence when entering premises without a warrant.
This means they will be allowed to secure the premises to prevent any person from tampering with or destroying the evidence.
To facilitate investigation work, a person cannot refuse to disclose information on the grounds of self-incrimination.
Legal officers of the Competition Commission will also be allowed to act in appeals and court proceedings on behalf of the commission.
The amendments will come into force on 1 January 2006. - CNA /ct
