SINGAPORE : One of the longest fireworks extravaganzas in Singapore - all 15 minutes of it - is part of a S$2.5 million countdown party to usher in the new year.
The area around Mount Faber, Harbourfront and Sentosa will be buzzing with action come New Year's Eve.
For the first time, Seah Im car park will be transformed into party central for 10,000 to 20,000 people at the Canon Countdown Party.
There will also be exclusive wine-and-dine parties at the Jewel Box for only 999 guests.
The road leading up to Mount Faber and the Jewel Box will be closed to the public from 6am on New Year's Eve to 3am on New Year's Day.
Sentosa's Siloso beach will also have its annual countdown party.
So is there competition between the two events?
Said Susan Teh, CEO of Mount Faber Leisure Group, "We should complement each other. This whole party thing is catered to various segments and various target audience. You can have a black tie dinner, all the way to a partying thing at the countdown party at the Seah Im car park."
Singer Tanya Chua, MediaCorp star Fann Wong and Project Superstar winners will take centre-stage at the party.
Tickets for the show are on sale at S$18 each.
Said Project Superstar's Kelly Poon, "This is the biggest, first-ever countdown party I'm attending, and I will be performing, so I'm really looking forward to it."
You can also sky dine your way into the new year for S$999 per cabin and even play a part in the fireworks display in a world first.
At the stroke of midnight, you can activate the fireworks mechanism installed in the cabin to send showers of pyrotechnics all around the cable car.
The fireworks display is expected to steal the show.
For a full 15 minutes, the skies will come alive with fireworks and music, for what has been called a 'sky symphony', from six different venues.
The countdown party will be telecast live on MediaCorp's Channel 5. - CNA /ct
