SINGAPORE : If you're travelling out of Singapore by land during the festive season, the authorities are advising careful planning.
Traffic volume at both the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints is expected to be heavy during these periods from December 23-26 and from December 30 to January 2, 2006.
To avoid the congestion, travellers are encouraged to car pool or make use of public transport instead.
Those leaving Singapore by land can find out the latest traffic situation with the EMAS (Expressway Monitoring and Advisory System) system installed along the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) and the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE).
There is also a hotline (6863-0117) for information on the latest traffic conditions at both checkpoints.
SingTel is also providing an SMS service on traffic conditions. The number to send your messages to is *112.
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) says security checks on passengers and vehicles at the checkpoints have been stepped up.
And this could mean some inconvenience over the coming long weekend at the checkpoints.
Since last week, motorists have complained of long queues at the checkpoints following heavier traffic in and out of Singapore.

Seems that those higher ends inside ICA never gets it
The problem is with the immigrantion counters, only 30% of the counters are opened
The Customs Checks are not the ones that caused the jam, in fact there has been no queue up of cars at the Customs Section
So who benefits the most?
