SINGAPORE : Get ready to fork out up to 30% more for a pomfret or scamper this lunar new year.
The recent rainy weather coupled with the Hari Raya Haji holiday have resulted in a drop in fishing activities in Malaysia and Indonesia - from which Singapore imports some 300 tonnes of seafood every day.
Seafood supplies at wet markets have shrunk by 40% compared to the same time last year.
The price of all seafood is up some 20% to 30% per kilogramme.
Fishmongers say they aren't trying to profit from the shortage, and the price increase is comparable with last year's.
