SINGAPORE : There has been a power failure in many parts of Singapore.
The Energy Market Authority said the areas affected included Bukit Batok, Chua Chu Kang New Town, Crawford, Jalan Eunos, Mandai, Pandan and SengKang areas.
It said the power supply was disrupted at 3.55pm due to the tripping of two power generation plants at the Senoko Power Station.
Electricity supply to some areas has been restored.
Callers to the MediaCorp News hotline said traffic lights in the areas were also affected.
Meanwhile, reports from Malaysia say utility company Tenaga Nasional has turned off 236 power distribution stations in Johor "for safety and security reasons".
Spokesman Sidek Kamisul is quoted as saying "a water and electricity mix is such a bad idea". - CNA /ls
