SINGAPORE: The building of two new cycling tracks has begun in Tampines housing estate.
The tracks are expected to be completed at the end of the year and will help to facilitate cycling within the neighbourhood.
To be built at a cost of S$1 million, the new bicycle lanes will be sited next to the pedestrian footpath.
One of them, measuring 720 metres, will be built between Tampines Avenue 5 and 3.
The other lane, measuring about 1.5 kilometres, will link up Tampines Street 32 and Tampines Avenue 4.
The Tampines Town Council says it will consider building more bicycle lanes if the first phase of its project is well—received.
National Development Minister and MP for Tampines GRC, Mah Bow Tan, said: "The Ministry of Transport has already indicated...(it is) interested to promote cycling as a mode of transport, instead of just as a form of leisure. So as a mode of transport for travel within the town, I think Tampines is probably the first one that has gone in such big way in promoting this." — CNA/ir
Park Connecting Network?
Seems like Singapore might be using this to make it to the next big thing... Greatly cutting down on energy spending; aids in saving the environment and reduce motor cars traffic?
