SINGAPORE, Aug 7, 2008 (AFP) - A three-year-old Singaporean boy has died from suspected hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), Singapore's Ministry of Health said Thursday.
The boy, whose name was not disclosed, died Wednesday at a local hospital where he was admitted after being diagnosed with fever and dehydration, the ministry said.
It was the first case of suspected death from HFMD this year, the ministry said.
The boy's kindergarten was closed until August 17 for cleaning and disinfection
There were 392 cases of HFMD in the week ending August 2, which is below the warning threshold level, the health ministry said.
