SINGAPORE: RoboCup 2010, the biggest robotics and artificial intelligence showcase event in the world, is coming to Singapore.
The event is expected to bring in 3,000 participants from more than 40 countries.
It is the result of five months of gruelling work undertaken by the Singapore Polytechnic together with the Economic Development Board, the Science Centre and the country’s tourism board.
In selecting Singapore to be the host, the RoboCup Federation said the country is "truly a high—tech oriented society that maintains strong industrial and academic investments."
The federation hopes to field fully "autonomous humanoid robot football players" to compete in the World Cup by 2050.
Singapore organisers are hoping that RoboCup 2010 will ignite local initiatives to develop the industry and bring about more interest in robotics research and development.
