AVA to test Crystal Geyser spring water after Japanese recall
SINGAPORE: The Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) will be
testing American bottled mineral water "Crystal Geyser" for pesticide
residue as a precautionary measure.
This followed reports out of Japan that a company had recalled
eight million bottles of Crystal Geyser after consumers complained that
it smelled like insecticide and medicine.
A company spokesman from Otsuka Beverage Co Ltd was reported as
saying that no abnormalities were found in the water after the company
received 75 complaints about its smell.
AVA added that Crystal Geyser water is imported from the US only by
United Airlines for their use in flights and 30.6 tons have been
brought in so far this year.
It is otherwise not available for sale locally. - CNA/vm
