Countdown party to be held on floating platform at Marina Bay
SINGAPORE : The fireworks at the Marina Bay New Year countdown will go on as planned, despite the economic downturn.
It will be one of the biggest countdown parties in town.
Last year, 250,000 people watched the fireworks.
This year, for the first time, celebrities will be on stage at the floating platform to usher in the New Year at Marina Bay.
Utt, host, Marina Bay Countdown Show, said: "It is two hours of music, and we have jazz, pop, rock from the veteran artistes, as well as the new talented artistes, and some familiar Channel 5 artistes, so it is going to be fun."
Kenneth Liang, Executive VP, Programming and Production, MediaCorp Channel 5, said: "It will certainly define the Marina Bay as the iconic countdown venue for Singapore in future years. With the show going 'live' to more than 20 countries in the world, it will also imprint on the global consciousness that Singapore is one of Asia's leading and most beautiful cities."
Channel NewsAsia will beam 'live' coverage of the countdown to the region.
And it is not just the sky that will be lit; a light installation will also take place on water.
The installation is created by lighting 10,000 spheres. On each sphere, you will find wishes penned by Singaporeans from all walks of life.
