The National Environment Agency or NEA urges the public to act responsibly during the festive celebrations.
Members of the public taking part in the Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve countdown parties along Orchard Road, Marina Bay and other locations in Singapore are reminded not to litter.
The public is also advised against patronizing any items such as food, drinks and party novelties from illegal hawkers.
The NEA Officers present will not hesitate to take stern enforcement action against all littering offenders and illegal hawkers:
First-time littering offenders, who discard minor litter such as sweet wrappers, cigarette butts, parking coupon tabs and others improperly, can be fined $200.
Repeat littering offenders and first-time offenders who throw larger items such as plastic bags, food wrappers, drink cups and more will be sent to court where they may be imposed with a Corrective Work Order.
Illegal hawkers when apprehended may be sent to the Courts where, on conviction, be fined up to a thousand dollars for a first offender.
Their wares will also be seized. --938Live
