From this year, Singaporean students who are turning 15 can register for their National Registration Identity Card or NRIC at their own schools.
Previously, they would have to make a trip to the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority or ICA Building.
Under a joint initiative by ICA and Ministry of Education to streamline the process for NRIC registration, ICA will dispatch mobile registration teams to secondary schools.
Not only does this saves time, fewer documents are also required.
Students need only to bring along their School Smart Cards as a form of authentication.
More than 48,000 students from 167 schools will benefit from this joint initiative.
It’s mandatory for Singapore citizens and Singapore permanent residents to register for their NRIC once they reach 15 years of age.
Parents who have a child or children due for NRIC registration will receive notification letters from ICA two weeks before the date of registration at the school.
Upon completion of the registration process at the schools, ICA will produce the NRICs and dispatch them to the respective schools.
