The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority, AVA, has recalled twenty tea products from Myanmar, which will be destroyed.
Auramine O, a yellow dye used as an industrial colouring agent for colouring silk, cotton, paper and leather, is not permitted to be used in food.
In a statement today, AVA advises consumers who have bought the implicated products to discard and not consume them.
All consignments of tea leaves from Myanmar will be held for tests, and will only be released for sale if test results show that they are free from Auramine O.
AVA says tea leaves from Myanmar account for only 0.37 per cent of Singapore's total supply.
Most of the tea consumed in Singapore are imported from Malaysia, China, Indonesia and Vietnam.
Consumers who have any queries can call AVA’s hotline at 63257625.
