SINGAPORE : Twenty—one passengers were injured when the SBS bus they were in ploughed into a bus stop in Eunos Link.
The accident happened at about noon on Saturday.
According to victims, everything came and went in a flash.
"The driver couldn’t control his brakes and engine. The bus was speeding away and it hit three cars ahead of us. The passengers were screaming. And a few of them rushed forward to tell the bus driver to stop the bus, but he couldn’t stop the bus," recalled Shanti Daniel, a passenger on SBS Service 51.
Passengers said the bus then travelled for another hundred metres before crashing into the ceiling of a bus stop at Eunos Link.
"Many people were injured. But many people came forward to help us and dragged us out of the bus. I fell backwards and somebody helped me to get up and brought me out of the bus," said Daniel.
15 of the victims, including the driver, were sent to Changi General Hospital, while the other six, who are children, were sent to KKH.
SBS Transit has apologised for the incident.
It has sent representatives to the hospitals to assist the injured and is helping police in their investigations.
