Indonesia May Seek to Reduce Natural Gas Exports to Singapore
Indonesia will seek to reduce natural gas exports to Singapore to meet rising domestic demand, a minister said.
"The government plans to prioritise domestic gas supply. Because of that, the contract with Singapore must be renegotiated," Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Darwin Zahedy Saleh said late Wednesday.
The plan will further hurt Indonesia's reputation as a reliable natural gas supplier, after struggling to meet its commitment to deliver natural gas to overseas buyers in recent years.
Meanwhile, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Hatta Radjasa, said Indonesia would not make a "unilateral move" in its effort to reduce gas exports to Singapore.
Indonesia is exporting about 700 million standard cubic feet a day of gas to the neighbouring city state until 2020.
