SINGAPORE : Singapore Telecommunications Ltd announced it would begin a month-long trial of high-speed third-generation mobile services from Friday.
It has selected 150 consumers and corporate customers to take part in the trial, which will last from September 24 to Ocotber 24.

Those taking part in the trial will be provided with a 3G handset and have their existing mobile phone numbers ported and tied to a 3G SIM card.
They will also be given free usage of 3G services such as local video calls and video streaming for the duration of the trial.
During the trial, customers will experience seamless 2G/3G handover when they move to places without 3G coverage. The handover experience forms an important part of the trial.
Third-generation mobile technology allows voice, video and data transmission many times faster than current technology allows.
Singapore is set to be second Asian country to commercially launch GSM-based 3G services after Hutchison Whampoa Ltd began selling the service in Hong Kong.
Japan and South Korea already sell high-speed services using a different technology. - CNA

CDMA phones make a comeback.

The question of how much it will cost for the subscription will be in many minds.

3G not really popular here in Brisbane. Must be the bills. When they said they'll limit your bill to AUD$99 monthly, its no joke. Free incoming and free calls between same service provider by the way.

But I wonder whether will it mean our current phones is going to go or it is just like the bubble tea?

One thing for sure, your ordinary GSM 900, 1800 phone won't work with 3G. So far only newer generation CDMA phones can take 3G. So what do you reckon? As far as I know only the nokia 7200 (that squarish one)) can take both GSM and CDMA. The other players are NEC, DoCoMo, Motorola, and LG.
