SINGAPORE : Even before the final showdown, Singapore Idol has lost one of its 12 finalists. Candice Foo has quit the show.
The 19-year-old is best remembered as the dark horse who impressed judges in the Group Two performance, singing Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You".
"My goodness ... you shot out from nowhere and really impressed me tonight," judge Dick Lee said after her performance.
Candice fell ill late last week and has not attended a number of Singapore Idol events - including the finalists' first media conference.
Late last night, she told the show's producers she had decided to withdraw for personal reasons.
Candice recently also quit her Mass Comm course at Ngee Ann Polytechnic; at that time she said it was to focus on Singapore Idol.
"Candice had a lot of potential, you could see her grow throughout the competition. We are sorry that she had to withdraw. She's told us she is not prepared for it mentally and physically, but we still have 11 finalists so Singaporeans can still vote for them," said Jennifer Gwee, executive producer of Singapore Idol.
"We are not replacing her because we have already 11 finalists which the judges and the Singaporeans have chosen, so we are moving on from there," she said. - CNA -
