BY MAIZATUL NAZLINA
JOHOR BARU: Doctors at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital here worked 14 hours in an operation to save the baby of a snatch theft victim who went into a coma after falling from her motorcycle on Oct 20.
Sanorfizah Saleh, 31, was warded at the hospitalÂ’s intensive care unit where she underwent surgery to remove blood clots in her head.
She is expected to recover within the next few days after doctors detected some movement in her left fingers yesterday.
STILL IN A COMA: Sanorfizah being treated at the ICU unit of the Sultanah Aminah Hospital after she was knocked off her motorcycle by snatch thieves.
The baby, named Amirul Naim by the father, Azhar Md Ali, 33, is reported to be doing fine and would be taken to Kuala Lumpur to be cared for by a relative there.
“My wife showed positive signs today as she started moving her left fingers and I am happy with the progress.
“I hope she will be discharged soon to be with her children, who miss her a lot,” he said when met at the hospital.
Sanorfizah was riding her motorcycle from the family home in Kampung Cahaya Baru in Masai to Pasir Gudang to collect some goods from a direct-selling stockist there.
As she was travelling along Jalan Persiaran in Taman Cendana at 10.30am, a pillion rider on another motorcycle, which had come from behind, snatched her handbag from the bikeÂ’s front carrier.
One of the riders also kicked her motorbike, causing the expectant mother to lose her balance and fall. She fell unconscious after hitting her head on the road.
Passers-by brought her to the nearby Pasir Gudang health clinic but she was rushed to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital here where doctors had to make two emergency operations – one to save the baby she was carrying and the other to save her life.
Azhar is relieved that his wife would be able to return home soon to their other five children.
Johor Baru (South) OCPD Hashim Mohd Yusof said police were hunting for the two suspects involved in the case.
He appealed to eyewitnesses to provide more information as the case involved an innocent woman who went into a coma after the incident.
