As long as there is a 'you' doing or not-doing,
thinking or not-thinking,
'meditating' or 'not-meditating'
you are no closer to home
than the day you were born.
~ Wei Wu Wei
While you are busy being distracted, the demon of death will catch you; People of Tingri, practice from this moment onward.
Diverse sufferings are like the death of a child in a dream. By apprehending illusory appearances as real, one becomes weary. Therefore, when encountering disagreeable circumstances, viewing them as illusory is the bodhisattvas' practice

Better than reciting a hundred meaningless verses is the reciting of one verse of Dhamma, hearing which one attains peace.
- The Buddha, Dhammapada Verse 102
Defilement assail us every moment. The only antidote is to be mindful.
- Venerable Bodhi
Calm is his thought, calm his speech, and calm his deed, who, truly knowing, is wholly freed, perfectly tranquil and wise.

Practising Dharma is not difficult or time-consuming. We always have time; there are always 24 hours in a day. If we direct our mind in a positive direction, we can transform whatever action we do onto the path to enlightenment. In this way, the Dharma becomes part of our life in an organic way. Getting up in the morning is Dharma, eating and going to work is Dharma, sleeping is Dharma. By transforming our attitude in the midst of daily activities, our life becomes very meaningful.

Ordinary people are perpetually in a state if mental distraction, their minds scattered. When one meditates, on the other hand, the greatest obstacles come from additional mental productions, from the commentaries one makes on oneself, and one's preconceptions. Genuine meditation is avoidance of distraction as well as of any additional mental activity.

According to the Buddha, each and every person is responsible for his own suffering. They are suffering here today because of their strong craving for existence, as craving for existence influences them to commit unwholesome deeds. Thus is the main cause of suffering. It has taken more than 2500 years for many philosophers and psychologists to understand that what the Buddha said was indeed true. A poet analysed our life in the following way.
To the fire flies the moth
Knows not it will die.
Little fish bites the hook
Knows not of the danger
But though knowing well
The danger of these evil worldly pleasures,
We still cling to them so firmly
Oh how great is our folly!
~Ven. Dr k Sri Dhammananda, The Purpose of Life
Where there is suffering, there is peace and bliss, by letting go and experience it for numberless suffering sentient beings. Always think of how others are kind and precious. Treat them as you would like to be treated. With this practice, the beautiful lotus heart blossom and the happiness sun shines delightfully in your life.
~ Lama Zopa Rinpoche
mind must be emptied before wisdom can be gained .
Traditional case koan from the Gateless Gate, Case 15: Tozan’s Sixty Blows
Tõzan came to study with Unmon. Unmon
asked, "Where are you from?"
"From Sato," Tõzan replied.
"Where were you during the summer?"
"Well, I was at the monastery of
Hõzu, south of the lake."
"When did you leave there," Unmon
asked.
"On August 25" was Tõzan's
reply.
"I spare you sixty blows," Unmon said.
The next day Tõzan came to Unmon and
said, "Yesterday you said you spared me sixty blows. I beg to ask you, where was I at fault?"
"Oh, you rice bag!" shouted Unmon.
"What makes you wander about, now west of the river, now south of the
lake?"
Tõzan thereupon came to a mighty
enlightenment experience.
Six Points of Tilopa:
Do not recall,
Do not think,
Do not anticipate,
Do not meditate,
Do not analyze,
Do rest naturally
About this mind...in truth there is really nothing wrong with it. It is intrinsically pure. Within itself is already peaceful. Our practice is simply to see the Original Mind. So we must train the mind to know the sense impressions and not to get lost in them; to make it peaceful (at peace with them). Just this, is the aim of all this difficult practice we put ourselves through.
~ Ven. Ajahn Chah
