Thus I have heard, at one time the Buddha dwelt at Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove in the Garden of the Benefactor of Orphans and the Forlorn, together with a gathering of Great Bhikshus, twelve-hundred fifty in all, all Great Arhats well-known to the assembly: Elders Shariputra, Mahamaudgalyayana, Mahakasyapa, Mahakatyayana, Mahakausthila, Revata, Suddhipanthaka, Nanda, Ananda, Rahula, Gavampati, Pindola-Bharadvaja, Kalodayin, Mahakaphina, Vakkula, Aniruddha, and others such as these, all Great Disciples, together with all the Bodhisattvas, Mahasattvas: Manjushri, Prince of Dharma; Ajita Bodhisattva, Gandhastin Bodhisattva, Nityodukta Bodhisattva, and others such as these, all Great Bodhisattvas, and together with Shakra, Chief among Gods, and the numberless great multitudes from all the heavens. - Amitbha sutrathanks,
Are we Buddha's disciples? Yes, I would think so. Then we may be the mara that vowed to protect Buddhadharma. For a mara is not an independent object, he is just a part of us. ThatÂ’s why we could also be Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva as long as we let her or his compassion become ours. ThatÂ’s why we could also be the Buddha if we let Anuttara-samyaksam-bodhi become us. We are all a part of the collective consciousness, we are the mara but we are also the Buddha. May our mara be reformed by our Buddha mind and vowed to protect Buddhadhmarma.Originally posted by sinweiy:Anyone know who among Buddha's disciples used to be mara, but later vowed to protect Buddhadharma? And mara
normally don't vowed. See how they are reformed by Buddha!

Namelessness is wise. There is no 'others'... all are one... 'Others' are a lived dream of the one thing which is not a thing at all.Originally posted by namelessness:Are we Buddha's disciples? Got approached by one of these cults in Singapore before...but it sound too hard to believe so I refused to go to their place of worshipOriginally posted by An Eternal Now:So now you know why there are all kinds of cults about Maitreya nowadays,
Yes, in fact there are really plenty of cults around Maitreya around the world (just typing "maitreya" in google you can see how many cults appear), just that there is one that is quite popular hereOriginally posted by maggot:Got approached by one of these cults in Singapore before...but it sound too hard to believe so I refused to go to their place of worship
The mind, the Buddha, living creatures - these are not three different things.Originally posted by longchen:Namelessness is wise. There is no 'others'... all are one... 'Others' are a lived dream of the one thing which is not a thing at all.

yes, got all the theory and all. but i meant really. It's mention by Master Keng Yun, something to do with 'mo he'(?) naming of the disciples. He name a few or couple disciples of Buddha. but i forgot. i'm just lazy to track the audio.Originally posted by namelessness:Are we Buddha's disciples? Yes, I would think so. A passage states that Mara will also protect Buddhists:
Chapter Thirteen, "Protecting Stupas," of the Sun-matrix Sutra, fascicle ten, states:
Then the mara Papiyas, surrounded in front and behind by eighty billion kinsmen, went to the place of the Buddha. On reaching it, he touched his head to the Buddha's feet and paid homage to the World-honored one. Then he stated in verse....
All Buddhas of the past, present, and future, with great compassion,
Accept my homage! I repent all my evil acts.
In the two treasures of dharma and sangha, in the same way.
I sincerely take refuge without any other thought.
May I, this day, make offerings to, revere,
And venerate the guiding master of all the world.
All evils I extinguish forever and will never commit;
To the end of my life, I will take refuge in the Tathagata's dharma.
The mara Papiyas, when he had finished stating this verse, said to the Buddha, 'O World-honored one! The Tathagata, possessing a mind of equality and nondiscrimination with regard to me and all sentient beings, is always filled with joy and with compassion and forbearance.";
The Buddha said, "So it is."
Then the mara Papiyas greatly rejoined and awakened the mind of purity. Again, before the Buddha, he touched his head to the Buddha's feet in homage. He then circumambulated the Buddha three times to the right, reverently placed his palms together, and withdrew to one side, where he stood gazing at the Buddha without wearying.

quote:
Heart Sutra stated defile and purity are not two. if one get rid of defilments, the mind become pure. and if we can substain this purity, we can become Buddha. when we begin we stop all evil and cultivate goodness. eventually, evil and goodness have to be 'bao rong' encompassed. Mara/Satan/Demons and Buddha/God dwell together.
When people talk about Demons, they feel fear or they feel angry. Actually, we should pity mara. As the definition for mara is due to one's mistake, one 'zhe mo' (torture) oneself. Mara is world most pitiful beings, we should not hate them or make fun of them. We know how great was Buddha then. After every Sutra we read at the end, those [b]Qian Da Po, Qin Na Lo, Lo He Mo Lo, are all Maras. All take oathed to help Buddha, protect the Dharma. If in the Future buddhists who recite the sutras and are bother by anyone, they oathed to destory them. if not their heads will break/crack into 7 pieces. Maras are very afraid of swearing. But now they swear to Buddha. Look at how great is Buddha. So maras are not unchangable. When we change them, they no longer become mara.
Anyone know the english name?

Hi, what you made you think that demons caused her to turn into a spirit?Originally posted by longchen:About demons... i saw one once (astrally)... part of it... it was too dark... i only manage to see the hands (or rather claws...)
I saw it in my house when I was in Australia. There is another Being in the house... she was a ghost... a middle-aged white woman. I strongly believe her death was caused by the demon.
The dead woman...i saw her for practically every night for 2 weeks. She appears to have died in the house and from some illness with very high fever. She was very pitiful...she did not speak to me...maybe she does not know that i can speak english as i am chinese.
I wish she has reincarnated or moved on to a better dimension/realm.
No one to lead so she staysOriginally posted by longchen:About demons... i saw one once (astrally)... part of it... it was too dark... i only manage to see the hands (or rather claws...)

Maybe, not directly kill her...but through influencing the minds of people around. When i was in the house, the people in the house gets violent very easily. Also, the neighbours have experienced wierd happenings and one of my neighbour even moved out after seeing something.Originally posted by An Eternal Now:Hi, what you made you think that demons caused her to turn into a spirit?
Sorry... what do you mean... see doctor?Originally posted by Suicine:see doctor la
There are many cases of vengeful spirits who take away people's life. People who 'kena' such spirits usually have an incurable illness. The spirits may give signs to the victim. Remember the recent case which both my mom and my dharma teacher visited him? It is one such case.Originally posted by Suicine:see doctor la
