Yes, Longchen's rendering are great too. I think he specialises in graphic designing. The wallpaper Namelessness made was also great.
When I have time maybe I should start learning 3d rendering. Looks fun. -

I am a product designer by profession so 3D graphics is my rice-bowl.
About Blender, it is as powerful as professional programs. In fact there are movies being made with it! But, it is not as easy to understand (at first) when compared to professional package. But the online manual on the website is quite good.
In my workplace, i use a very expensive 3D software call Alias
