Just for interest sake.
I noticed something interesting on newspapers yesterday.
Back in August 2001, just months before he took the Fema job, the organisation issued a routine strategic report that pinpointed the three potential catastrophes Americans were most likely to face: a terrorist attack on New York City; a hurricane in New Orleans and an earthquake near San Francisco.and then...
The initial report must still make for especially uncomfortable reading for those living in San Francisco, since an earthquake there remains the last of Fema's three predictions still to come to pass.At the beginning of the year, I have posted a letter sent by a follower of the well known Buddhist master Lama Zopa Rinpoche, which warned that a major earthquake will strike California this year:
http://buddhism.sgforums.com/?action=thread_display&thread_id=112440Interestingly, shortly after Lama Zopa Rinpoche announced it, there was a warning from the Geologists that a large earthquake would occur soon.
"There is a now major MT shift in progress. Most likely it indicates a strong earthquake is in final preparation, and deep crustal resonant harmonic energy is surfacing along the Pacific and North American Plate boundary. The high priority level warning encompasses the San Andreas fault from Gorman to the Salton Sea, including the Mojave Desert and the San Jacinto Fault Zone from Wrightwood to Mexicali. and the Imperial fault from Brawley to Northern Baja, Mexico. Southern and Central California should now be on advisory from Bakersfield to San Diego to expect a strong seismic event (M6+) within the next several days along one of the major faults in the region." From: Frank Condon,
Subject: Major MT Shift in Progress: WARNINGI will post a portion of the text here. Basically it first warns about the impending major earthquake about to occur in California that year, and recommended a few practises in order to try to avert a catastrophic outcome.

But by 18/1/2005 seems it already had good effect:
Dear Friends,
Regarding the possibility of earthquake happening in California:
Many thanks for your good response, helping to do prayers at home and also to those who joined our practice day yesterday.
Following Rinpoche's advice, we ordered the recitation of Kangyur (sutra-words of the Buddha) at Kopan in Nepal. The Kopan monks and nuns in Nepal (over 500 of them) did the recitation last week and that seems to have a good effect already! See the lastest message from Rinpoche.
The good news is with Kangyur recitations etc... the situation for earthquakes doesn't look so serious for this year 05 any more. But still good to do these practices (of Ksitigarbha and Guru Rinpoche prayers)...Five months later, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake, largest in several years, occured in California.
http://buddhism.sgforums.com/?action=thread_display&thread_id=137384I hope that would be the last earthquake to occur there this... hopefully the 'Big One' that everyone's fearing is over.
