One hand clapping, is just the same as one ring from the bell during chanting.
"Feel" the sound instantly by your ears and into the heart and mind.
"Feel" the sudden vibration/pain that last about 1 to 2 seconds.
"Feel" of the emotion at that moment.
For some of us, especially without sublime state or a clear and clean may not be able to "feel" it. Or at times, your surrounding environment might not be of the right to do it. Go to a quiet place, Take a deep breath and let it go. Now with a more aware mindset, clap your hand once.
Metta.
I think feeling it is not the purpose.
The purpose of a koan is to "break the back of logic", and as long as you have any intellectual conclusion, you must continue to work on that koan.
I would also like to make a point that my master said... many people do koans wrongly. What is 'Hua Tou?' Hua Tou literally means Word's Head. But some people go and chan Hua Wei (word's end).
The Soundless Sound? That is not really a sound, that is realising our pure awareness.
