This is one of the confusing part of the sutras.
Sutra states each Buddha sits under different kind of trees, but yet how come it is Bodhi tree? It is very strange.... but actually people are all mistaken.
All Buddhas of different era sit under different kind of trees, but after enlightenment, that kind of tree will be called the Bodhi Tree!Because someone attained Great Enlightenment under it... thats why its Bodhi.

Yup, actually, I think it is not 60,000 (did you accidentally refered to the unorthodox I-Kuan-Dao's version of maitreya sutra?), but more than 9 billion people getting enlightened in each assembly.
http://www.jenchen.org.sg/vol8no3a.htm
Throughout Maitreya Buddha's entire life of delivering discourses on the Dharma, he guides and enlightens infinite numbers of sentient beings. Among the various Dharma discourses, there are 3 great assemblies: [b]The first assembly teaches and guides 9.6 billion people, the second assembly, 9.4 billion people, and the third assembly, 9.2 billion people. These assemblies are the highly renowned 'Dragon-Flower Triple Assemblies' of the future.
Apart from these, there are many many occasions where billions of people attain enlightenment! (The Sutra of Maitreya's Attaining Buddhahood)
Also, according to the Lotus Sutra, Shakyamuni Buddha held Three Assemblies in Two Places.
1. First Assembly in Vulture Peak (Mount Grdhrakuta) - from Chapter 1 to first half of Chapter 11.
2. Second Assembly in the sky - from the second half of Chapter 11 to Chapter 21.
3. Third Assembly in Vulture Peak (Mount Grdhrakuta) again - from Chapter 21 to Chapter 28.
Wonderful that they are going to teach dharma in the sky!

The teaching of Kalachakra was never a message for holy war, but a message for peace. I have printed one Kalachakra Mantra image and pasted it on my room's wall, below I wrote it "Kalachakra for World Peace".Originally posted by Thusness:Hi Eternal Now,
According to tradition, yes. But I am always resistance to the idea of 'Holy War' and therefore is a little suspicous that is was from the hand of Buddha.Neverthless there must be some very compelling truth and reasons for the lines of Dalai Lamas to show that sort of interests in KalaChraka practices.
Yes, it is written in the Kalachakra Tantra commentary itself if I am not wrong. The Kalachakra Tantra is passed down by Shakyamuni Buddha himself. In fact all tantras (like sutras) were expounded by Buddha himself. Tantras are only practised in the Vajrayana tradition.Originally posted by marcteng:Abt the Kalachakra Tantra.
Do you have the sutra that says it is preached by Shakyamuni Buddha?
I just want to verify that it is indeed preached by the Buddha on Kalachakra Tantra.
Can you show me the text or suttas that was preached by the Buddha?Originally posted by An Eternal Now:Yes, it is written in the Kalachakra Tantra commentary itself if I am not wrong. The Kalachakra also specifically made reference to Shambhala beings coming by "flying horses" and "boats that fly in the air"
Kalachakra is a well known teaching in Vajrayana (being taught in all 4 Tibetan traditions) and is taught by many famous teachers like Dalai Lama himself, but if you are not familiar with Tibetan Buddhism, you would probably not know about it.Originally posted by marcteng:Can you show me the text or suttas that was preached by the Buddha?
Never heard b4 leh, pardon my ignorance on this.
Sorry, I have some doubts on this.
maybe you explain the whole thing in this context.
