Because the Powers of Buddha is beyond our knowledge to understandOriginally posted by Isis:My cousin caught a mysterious virus while she is studying medicial school in England.. the virus may or may not be life-threatening... I will transfer merits to her, pls pm her name to me ...
If u doubt the capability of Medicine Buddha chants ,then it will be quite hard for her to have strength to overcome
i used to have doubts in Buddha chants ,but now , i am very confident that Buddha name chanting and chanting of Sutra does help
You can also help her by chanting the mantra of Medicine Buddha
Namo Bhagavate Bhaisajya- guru vaidurya
prabha rajaya tathagataya
arhate samyaksambuddhaya
tadyatha OM bhaisajye
bhaisajye bhaisajya
samudgate svaha
So u still want to help her ?Originally posted by Isis:Hi,

she don't believe in Buddhism.... either do her parents...
i'm aso curious...
when we dedicate merits, it aso depends on the other person's karma to receive it right?
Chanting is a form of energy directed from the mind ,at the state of calmful mind ,it will produce a magnetic flow of Goodness towards all directionOriginally posted by dragg:no disrespect intended.
how can chanting help cure a sickness?
Even though your cousin has not taken refuge, it is also good to chant for him the Buddha-name or mantra of Medicine Buddha. However, you receive most of the benefits of the chanting rather than him. There is a saying... when you chant, 6 parts goes to u, 1 part goes to person (you intend to chant to benefit). It is best for him to chant or at least recognise your chanting. And it is also important if possible, that he takes refuge in the Three Treasures, Buddha Dharma Sangha. However if he does not believe in Buddha it may be very difficult, unless he meets a good venerable who can convince him.Originally posted by An Eternal Now:Speaking of Medicine Buddha... I roughly remembered a true story I was told over a year ago, by a Buddhist friend who experienced it himself. I can't really remember the detail now as it has been a long time.. but anyway...
This guy had some problem and needed to go for brain surgeries several times... Before he went, he went to a foreign lama who came to Singapore to teach the teachings on Medicine Buddha. I can't remember which Lama, but I know the name starts with S. Anyway, during some kind of ritual (or maybe not ritual, something else), everyone was sitting in a circle. The lama walked to him and pulled him out of the circle, and told him he got (Karmic) Obstructions, and he needs to practice well.
Soon, he went for the surgery (or is it not? i cant remember)... I believe he had been practising.. and then he slipped into a coma. For 4 days he remained unconscious, until the 4th day, the first thing he remembered was seeing a figure of a man, he done quite some description but i really cannot remember it anymore. After awaking from it he asked the doctors/nurses whether someone came to visit him. They said nope, nobody had visited him when he woke up. It was later he visited the lama again, and the lama told him the figure was a manifest of the Medicine Buddha, and he was saved by the Medicine Buddha. Later he went for several surgeries and succeeded. I still see him sometimes these days.
Hmm... you play too much liao? Or is it a chronic problem.... if it is maybe you will have to visit a doctor.Originally posted by gamesharkuser:i now also kana a serious sick ar..... play comp i will get serious headache.... now very giddy sia...

and u do have doubt in the healing power of Medicine Buddha ?
"when we dedicate merits, it aso depends on the other person's karma to receive it right?"
depends , but have u made that effort ?
remember work done = force x distance
To recite the Medicine Buddha mantra is equivalent to reciting the whole Medicine Buddha sutra
If she doesnt believe in Buddhism , i think it IS DIFFICULT FOR BUDDHA TO HELP HER ,get it ?

It is not good for mind and body to indulge in too much computer games. My dharma teacher strongly disadvise in indulging in video games.. and practitioners of the path will also know.
Yes, just do what you can... rest is up to her Karma.Originally posted by Isis:Despite she dun believe in Buddhism, i will still chant for her... the least i can do to help her...
