Stanford School of Medicine hosted a dialogue between the Dalai Lama, neuroscientists from Stanford, and Buddhist scholars in a day-long program, "Craving, Suffering and Choice: Spiritual and Scientific Explorations of Human Experience," at Memorial Auditorium.

i was wondering after listening to the video, if one have a brain transplant, will one still be the same person? meaning will one still have the same memories or memories of the person who supply the brain?

As for the brain, according to Ajahn Brahmavamso, who also stated again that mind is seperate from material world or the body - that even if we were to have brain transplant in future, we would still be the same person. Because our memories etc are NOT stored in the brain. The mind is BEYOND the brain.

He also told us the case of the boy with no brain, and yet have an IQ of 127 and expert in Maths
In fact he is not the only one who was found to be with no brains.

Scientists spend billions of dollars into researching the brains, they don't want them to be wasted. -
yes thks, all the links/stories/talks are familar to me, i already read and heard before.
currently brain transplant is not possible, only heart transplant can. but below are already the side effects:
A 47-year-old Caucasian male received a heart from a 17-year-old African-American male. The recipient was surprised by his new-found love of classical music. What he discovered later was that the donor, who loved classical music and played the violin, had died in a drive-by shooting, clutching his violin case to his chest.
A 29-year-old lesbian and a fast food junkie received a heart from a 19-year-old woman vegetarian who was "man crazy." The recipient reported after her operation that meat made her sick and she was no longer attracted to women. If fact, she became engaged to marry a man.
A 47-year-old man received a heart from a 14-year-old girl gymnast who had problems with eating disorders. After the transplant, the recipient and his family reported his tendency to be nauseated after eating, a childlike exuberance and a little girl's giggle.

I believe ordinary people's mind is heavily linked with our bodily organs or the 5 senses, therefore if any one of them are damaged etc, our mental states may change with them... but I'm not too sure exactly.
But I believe the mind is still seperate from the body... we dont start to remember things we dont after transplants. 7th and 8th consciousness, for an ordinary sentient beings, continues to reincarnate. -

not within you and me ... this is the explanation to why such thing are happening
