Master Chu-hung said this, "Mind is basically unborn: it is born when causal conditions come together. Mind basically does not die: it dies when causal conditions disperse. There seems to be birth and death, but fundamentaly there is no going or coming.
If you can understand this, then you will be at peace through birth and death - ever still, ever aware.
If you cannot yet understand this, then you must wholly abandon your personal existence, and continuously recite the phrase "Amitabha Buddha," and seek birth in the Pure Land."
You may ask, "What has this to do with the teaching of the patriarch?" - Very much! Both say, that if the higher understanding of the Pure Land doctrine is too difficult for an ordinary man/woman, it is perfectly OK to just recite the name of AMITABHA, have great faith, and vow to be born in His land.
Buddha-remembrance is a method to attain the state of samadhi. Samadhi is the practice of centering the mind in a single sensation or preoccupation. It means concentration, meditative absorption. Samadhi is the particular final stage of pure concentration.
Also to understand why the buddha name and image is of crucial importance, Shakyamuni Buddha said this, "Visualize the image of the Buddha. Why the Buddha? Because Buddhas, Tathagatas, have cosmic bodies, and so enter into the meditating mind of each sentient being. For this reason, when you contemplate a Buddha, that mind itself takes the form of his thirty-two physical characteristics and eighty secondary marks. Your mind produces the Buddha's image, and is itself the Buddha. The ocean of perfectly and universally enlightened Buddhas thus arises in the meditating mind. For this reason, you should single-mindedly concentrate and deeply contemplate the Buddha, Tathagata, Arhat and Perfectly Enlightened One." -

All that's good or bad is generated from your afflicted mind/heart of attachment, dualism and wandering thoughts. if one's mind is without attachment, dualism and wandering thoughts, outside is absolutely Yi Zhen Fa Jie (or Pureland)! That's why we said we purify the mind rather that the outside phenomena.

and the foundation of TEN WHOLESOME WAYS OF ACTION is actually the 'worldly' teaching of Confucianism's
one method which enables him to cut off all sufferings
of evil destinies. What kind of methods is this? It
is constantly, day and night, to recollect, to reflect
on and to contemplate on the wholesome dharmas so as to
cause the wholesome dharmas to increase from thought-
moment to thought-moment, without allowing the least
unwholesome thought to mingle in. This will then enable
you to cut off all evil forever, to bring the wholesome
dharmas to completion and to be constantly near all the
Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and other holy communities. Speaking
about wholesome dharmas, the bodies of men and
devas, the Illumination of the Shravakas, the Illumination
of the Pratyekas, and the Highest Illumination,
they are all accomplished depending on these dharmas
which are to be considered as fundamental. Therefore they
are called wholesome dharmas. These dharmas are the ten
wholesome ways of actions. What are these ten? They are
the ability to give up forever killing, stealing, wrong
conduct, lying, slandering, harsh language, frivolous
speech, lust, hate, and wrong views.
