It took liao fan about 10 years to change his life. But to me, it is not about the change of destiny for himself, but more importantly is the value system which he carried and taught to his sons.
Some of the stories are very mind intriguing and quite frequently brought in the teachings of Confucius. And the explainations are full of great wisdom.
It is not about the destination, but the process and his reasoning for doing things.

Master Chin Kung also practice like what Liao Fan did and His result was even better. Someone predicted that MCk would depart at the age of 40(?), and true enough, when He reached that age, He got a serious illness and He tot He's going, so He recited Amituofo and wished to be reborn in West Land. He did not see a doctor, but the illness cure by itself miraculously. His karma was changed and His affinity, health, merit, fortune all become very xu1 shen4.
and btw there's also Tai4 shan4 gan3 yi4 which the result was even better still than Liao Fan!

I found an English version of the Book LiaoFan 4 lessons over at Woodlands library(I think) last year.
I believe you should also be able to get Liao Fan 4 lessons over at Ju Shi Lin. -
