Need some help here... I find it extremely difficult to extend compassion to one who would throw me into hell for not believeing him, and to punish my descendants up to the 4th generation to boot. I am to also sacrifice my children to prove my faith to him and that I love him more than my own family...Originally posted by paperflower:on the other hand we ought to show compassion for that almighty one whom by now should have realised his mistakes. we should be more humane and think with a thinking head and apply the compassionate wisdom to the world.
just as someone make mistakes, realise his mistakes and repenting correcting the path, we should be compassionate to him. this is the practice of forgiveness.
its too late to change the holy text cos whats done is done cannot be undone. but the consequences one really has to pay for leading the wrong mind set of living to more and more confusion and sufferings. the living chaos that is now.....
you don't have to use him as an object for practicing loving-kindness meditation, not necessarily. we have all kinds of cruelty in reality in the daily life we can see, receive and perceive. you can contemplate on why how you should forgive him and how you could let go of this anger, resentment, lamenting, hatred and think what is stopping you from extending compassion. (pride, ego, anger, hatred, confusion? why like that?) its not easy.... but if one continues to be in these lamenting thoughts, you are already starting to live in hell becos of anger and hatred. you should also think what makes you unable to be a good buddhist and what's hindering you? go to the root problem of ignorance - that's when you practice diligently as a buddhist and study & understand buddha's teachings.Originally posted by Beyond Religion:Need some help here... Maybe I am still not a good Buddhist... I should use him as an object when practicing loving-kindness meditation.
Practise Loving-kindness to all Sentient Beings regardless of religion, races, beliefs and differences. =)Originally posted by Beyond Religion:Need some help here... In an uncertain and fast-changing world, more people are turning to religion for comfort, strength and peace of mind. Religion also serves as their moral compass and guides their daily lives. The different religions in the world may have theological and philosophical differences but they all emphasise love, peace, tolerance, respect for others, compassion and the well-being of mankind.
Shakyamuni Buddha taught more than 2,500 years ago, also during a period of great change. The core of his teachings is compassion and wisdom. The Buddha did not give preference to race, social status or gender but taught for the benefit of all living things. This is great compassion of the Bodhisattva ideal. Like a doctor who has diagnosed oneÂ’s sickness and prescribed the medicine, the Buddha wisely identified the causes of dissatisfaction and shared with us the Path that leads to the end of all suffering. This is the great wisdom of the Buddha. His timeless message is even more relevant to our needs today.
In Singapore, Buddhism gives spiritual comfort and guidance to a large segment of our population. The Buddhist community here is over one million, the largest amongst the religions, and it is growing. One reason why Buddhism has been able to attract younger and well-educated believers is the emphasis placed on Buddhist education and propagating the Dharma, rather than engaging in rituals and traditional practices blindly. To broaden its appeal, Buddhist classes and talks are often held in English. The Internet is also used
