The Buddha taught that the person whose mind remains unshaken in the face of lifeÂ’s changes (praise & blame, fame & ill-fame, happiness & unhappiness, profit & loss) is indeed blessed. How are lay Buddhists to understand this teaching and how can we achieve this ability to rise above lifeÂ’s challenges so that we can remain sane in this stressful world? These and other answers on how the practice of Buddhism and Buddhist meditation in particular, can help us live a stress free life will be addressed.

What is the use of religion or wisdom if you don't find happiness here and now? We have a choice as to whether we want to walk the path of happiness or otherwise. We are empowered to change our lives for the better, provided we understand what it takes.
You and your friends are invited to learn how to gain happiness through applying Dhamma in everyday living. This series of talks is targeted at helping us walk the path of happiness. Each talk will commence with a short guided meditation.
BF is proud to unveil a series of Wednesday night talks on "Applying Dhamma In Everday Living". Spreading over a period of 8 weeks, this series will be conducted by Angie Monksfield, BF President.

Angie Monksfield is President of Buddhist Fellowship. She was a founder member of this organisation when it was established in 1988 and has been instrumental in modernising and transforming the image of Buddhism in Singapore. She also founded the non-profit Brahm Education Centre, Tai Pei Buddhist Counseling Centre and the Soracco Music and Performing Arts group. She is a Counselor Trainer and teaches a variety of courses. She is also a Vice President of the Singapore Computer Society, a member of MDAÂ’s Arts Consultative Panel and a Marriage Solemniser. She is a provocative and inspiring speaker. -

The Setting Up of Awakening Buddhism Study Centre
Dear brothers and sisters,
The setting up of Awakening Buddhism Study Centre is to promote Buddha's compassion and wisdom so as to benefit all sentient being. In order to achieve this objective, the committee of Awakening Buddhism Study Centre has decided to rent a unit in Ascender Building for all who are keen to learn and practise the teachings of the Buddha. Together, let us help to build a place conducive for everyone to cultivate compassion and wisdom.

DEDICATING FOR DONORS - 2006
Hundreds of Singaporeans made donations to Sravasti Abbey during Ven. Chodron’s recent visit there. Their enthusiasm to see the Dharma spread in the West was inspiring. Many Singaporeans requested that Abbey residents pray for their recovery from illness, good health and long life, elimination of obstacles and success, and for the good rebirth of their deceased relatives. Others offered funds for an acre or half acre of land; some offered lights on the altar. On May 12—Vesak Day according to the Chinese calendar—Sravasti Abbey residents and guests did the Lama Chopa puja during which they created positive potential that they dedicated for the well-being of all sentient beings and in particular for their Singaporean donors and other benefactors. We were happy that two Singaporean FOSA supports—Leng Poh and Jillian—were with us for the event.
We set up another altar in addition to the main one in our meditation hall on which we placed offerings especially for this pujs. Here Jillian is making offerings on behalf of all Singaporean donors

Offerings to be given are restricted only to commonly medications and dried goods such as rice, grains, biscuits, 3-in-1 cereals, vegetarian canned foods etc.
Offerings of cooked foods and ang pows are not allowed.
Foods offered must be vegetarian and egg-free.
Donations for Buddhist College of Singapore are all welcomed. Please drop your donations into the donation boxes provided.

A major feature of the show will revolve around Buddhist monasteries in Dharmasala where the Dalai Lama lives, Rawalasa where there are six monasteries, and also Bhutan.

About Ven. S. Dhammika
Venerable Shravasti Dhammika was born in Australia in 1951 into a Christian family, and converted to Buddhism at the age of eighteen. In 1973 he went to Thailand with the intention of becoming a monk but was unimpressed by what he saw in the monasteries there. He then went to Laos, Burma and finally to India. For the next three years, he traveled around India learning yoga and meditation, and finally ordaining as a monk under Venerable Matiwella Sangharatna, the last disciple of Anagarika Dharmapala. In 1976 he went to Sri Lanka where he studied Pali at Sri Lanka Vidyalaya, and later became one of the co-founders and a teacher, of Nilambe Meditation Centre in Kandy. Since then, he has spent most of his time in Sri Lanka and Singapore. Bhante Dhammika, as he is known to his students and friends had written over twenty-five books and scores of articles on Buddhism and related subjects. He is also well-known for his public talks and represented Theravada Buddhism at the European Buddhist Millennium Conference in Berlin in 2000. Apart from Buddhist philosophy and meditation, Bhante Dhammika has a deep interest in the historical topography of Buddhism and the phenomenon of pilgrimage and has traveled widely in India and other Buddhist lands. His others interests include Indian history, art and botany. -

The Buddha's Advice to the Laymen
Talk and Q&A Session by Sylvia Bay
We all know and respect the Buddha as a great spiritual teacher who had taught a practice that would lead to peace and happiness for the practitioner. It is perhaps less well known that he was also a great counsellor who gave practical advice on how to lead a meaningful and successful lay life. The issues he spoke about include: handling relationships, managing wealth and assets, and juggling between material pursuits and spiritual aspirations. In this session, Sylvia will discuss how we can apply these teachings to our daily life.

She has been teaching Dhamma for 5yrs at Mangala Vihara and gives regular Dhamma talks at the invitation of various Buddhist organisations in Singapore, such as Tisarana and Buddhist Fellowship. Sylvia also holds a Masters Degree in International Public Policy. -

May i ask what type of fish are going to be released? I am quite well-versed with aquatic knowledge. Not all seawater fish when release into the sea will survive. For example, Coral reef fishes must release into coral reef.Originally posted by concerned_man:

I think you have brought up a very good point. I am sorry that I do not know what type of fish will be released.
I believe they might have already considered this. It will be very helpful if you can write them an email or call them about this. They would be very keen to hear from you - I believe.

Do you have any good resources or materials that will serve as useful references for pple who are keen to be involved in life release? Basically, if pple want to gather more info to help them make better informed decisions about where to release to animals, where can they find such info?
