You are right.. thoughts are fleeting and ungraspable.Originally posted by Isis:External, i find it hard to explain why i think thoughts are empty .. which is why i want to seek comments from people who has experience with meditation.
i was just wondering anyone here meditate on the arising and falling of thoughts? cos when i was beginning to meditate, i was having attachment to the random thoughts racing in my mind. Then i suddenly realise that these thought are empty and there is no point in attaching to them...
i can only roughly say that thoughts are empty in nature...
By the way do you have a meditation teacher?Originally posted by Isis:

yes you are correct that thoughts do arise and fall even in meditation, besides the waking moments. meditation and waking moments are also meditating, we look at them as dreams, illusions, nothing real about them. so they are empty. being empty is also connecting with them recognising them with compassion without clinging attaching to them so in a way we also do not ignore them totally. emptiness is being with all.Originally posted by Isis:i was just wondering anyone here meditate on the arising and falling of thoughts? cos when i was beginning to meditate, i was having attachment to the random thoughts racing in my mind. we look at them as dreams, illusions, nothing real about them. so they are empty. being empty is also connecting with them recognising them with compassion without clinging attaching to themif you first need to see thoughts as "dreams, illusions and nothing real" before you can accept them, this is not true emptiness.
Compassion and Emptiness are 2 sides of the same coin. That coin is known as Buddha-nature in Buddhism.Originally posted by paperflower:so... what is compassion, loving kindness in emptiness? and what is the value of awareness in this application?
what is the difference between void and emptiness on the sheer line apart? is it possible for one to fall over to either side?
what is "complete in emptiness"?
Yes. A loving heart, kindness and friendship is what substains our lives and our well-being on earthOriginally posted by paperflower:indeed, the profound meaning of emptiness is truly deep.
the buddha said: "sustaining a loving heart, even for the duration of a finger snap, makes one a truly spiritual being."

If you do, you will fall into a neutral kind of emptiness.
Emptiness includes the sun, moon, stars and planets,
The great earth, mountains and rivers,
All trees and grasses,
Bad people and good people,
Bad things and good things,
Heaven and hell;
They are all in the midst of emptiness.

From Ignorance... thoughts go along with the attachment of the "I".Originally posted by Isis:Hi guys thank.. i learn from all ur comments...

Thoughts are not desires. Desires are thoughts.Originally posted by Isis:Hi guys thank.. i learn from all ur comments...

Yup.. therefore with regards to such things, we say since 'beginningless time'... ignorance has been preventing us from awakening.Originally posted by earthling82:Thoughts are not desires. Desires are thoughts.
There's no need to seek a original reason to thoughts or greed. Because it is begining-less and will become endless if you keep on seeking a first cause.
Am i asking for a first cause with my question on the ignorance? heheOriginally posted by earthling82:Thoughts are not desires. Desires are thoughts.
