There is a good likelihood that Jesus' ideas were influenced by Buddhism, since Judea was on the crossroads of world trade routes between the eastern Mediterranean and India, and some Buddhist ideas reportedly made it to Greece and Egypt.
the life stories of Buddha and Jesus have vast similarities, could be the latter copied the formerOriginally posted by laoda99:tot u say christianity and buddhism different![]()
The biographies of Buddha and Christ show many similar features. Both were born in a miraculous way. Soon after their birth, their future greatness is proclaimed by a sage (Asita, Simeon). Both astonish their teachers through the knowledge they possess, though still in their early childhood. Both are tempted by the devil before they start upon their public career. Both walk over the water (//Jataka//, 190; //Matth.//, 14, 26). Both feed 500 and 5,000 persons, respectively (//Jataka//, 78; //Mark//, 14, 16ff.) by multiplying miraculously the food available. The death of both is accompanied by great natural phenomena. Also the parables ascribed to them show some similarities as, for instance, the story of the sower (//Samyutta//, 42, 7; //Matth.// 13,3), of the prodigal son (//Lotus of the Good Law//, Chap. IV; //Lk.//, 14), of the widow's mite (//Kalpanamanditika//; //Mark// 12).

where Buddhism believe more on enlightenment of oneself...not on gods at all...
But when it come into china...the people(commoner) mix them together...but actually they are two school of thoughts.
you got your history all wrong. buddhism was founded 2500 years ago, 500 years before christianity and 1000 years before islam.Originally posted by Blue Stardust:should be another way round...cause Buddhism come from india...and india at some time was influence by islam where some of their stories are nearly the same as in the bible.
correct...but later on, the emperors like in the Tang dynasty and some other later dynasy, the emperors believe more towards buddhism...so the whole country also changes, as people follow their emperor....so along the way...some people cannot understand the diff...so take them in.Originally posted by laoda99:I think b4 China have buddhism, they have confucianism.
Taoist comes much later.......claim to have roots from Daoism, but actually does not resemble the original Daoism (Lao Tzu/Zhuang Tzu) and later develop to many different gods....
so what buddhism is like 2500 years ago...? what do they do?Originally posted by OldMan:you got your history all wrong. buddhism was founded 2500 years ago, 500 years before christianity and 1000 years before islam.
Pretty much like what Buddhists do today, I should think.Originally posted by Blue Stardust:so what buddhism is like 2500 years ago...? what do they do?
Don't quote me, but I think Christianity was more like 700 years before Islam. Yeah... but Buddhism predates Christianity by about 500 years.Originally posted by OldMan:you got your history all wrong. buddhism was founded 2500 years ago, 500 years before christianity and 1000 years before islam.
We are not deliberately missing out Judaism. The focus of the timeline is on the three major religions of the world today (Christianity, Buddhism and Islam). If we want to list an exclusive timeline of all existing religions, we would also have to include Hinduism and the various types of diety worship, not to mention paganism, a part of which is adopted into Christianity.Originally posted by pwnz0r:You guys are missing out proper facts. Consider Judaism: how does that compare against your timeline of religions?
You must remember that Christianity is an evolution of Judaism, roots of Christianity stretch far back beyond Jesus Christ.
Hi Blue Stardust,Originally posted by Blue Stardust:so what buddhism is like 2500 years ago...? what do they do?
Hmm... I would rather say - Buddha is the reformer of the old Hindu religion (which at that time was not called Hinduism but Brahmanism), just like Jesus came to 'reform' by giving the New Testament. Buddha rejected its ideas, practises, rejected the Vedas and rejected the caste system.Originally posted by OldMan:im saying that all religions copy here copy there, buddhism has its roots in hinduism.
