I mean there are sure many teachings and doctrines and practices in the Buddhist's belief, and other religions like Christianity too have all these, though there are different ideas and beliefs.
and such things are not seen as when we mention about eternity or the hereafter.. you cannot be too dogmatic when U r here online...and to be everyone's judge or judgmental in these matter.. I 'm going to sleep. it's being a long day for me 2!

And so religions, to a large extent, became divisive rather than unifying forces. Instead of bringing about an end of violence and hatred through a realisation of the fundamental oneness of all life, they brought more violence and hatred, more divisions between people as well as between different religions and even within the same religion. They became ideologies; belief systems people could identify with and so use them to enhance their false sense of self. Through them, they could make themselves “right” and others “wrong” and thus define their identity through their enemies, the “others,” the “nonbelievers” or “wrong believers” who not infrequently they saw themselves justified in killing. Man made “God” in his own image. The eternal, the infinite, and unnameable was reduced to a mental idol that you had to believe in and worship as “my god” or “our god.”
What is the role of the established religions in the arising of the new consciousness? Many people are already aware of the difference between spirituality and religion. They realise that having a belief system – a set of thoughts that you regard as the absolute truth – does not make you spiritual no matter what the nature of those beliefs is. In fact, the more you make your thoughts (beliefs) into your identity, the more cut off you are from the spiritual dimension within yourself. Many “religious” people are stuck at that level. They equate truth with thought, and as they are completely identified with thought (their mind), they claim to be in sole possession of the truth in an unconscious attempt to protect their identity. They don’t realise the limitations of thought. Unless you believe (think) exactly as they do, you are wrong in their eyes, and in the not-too-distant past, they would have justified in killing you for that. And some still do, even now.Pls read the entire article there.

Enlightenment and Religion
Q. Are you saying that enlightenment is incompatible with religion, that we canÂ’t both be enlightened and, say, be a devout Jew, or Christian, or Moslem?
I think if people are devout and follow the true teachings of their particular religion, especially as they relate to the values I just mentioned, then that is a fairly enlightened way to live. However, awakening, or enlightenment, in the way I use the word, refers to understanding who we are beyond all our beliefs, concepts, and ideas about who we are.
It is knowing ourselves as the awareness, the consciousness, behind all phenomena, behind all creation, which includes the creation of religious beliefs and stories. Enlightenment means unconditional freedom, a freedom that does not depend on any agent, belief, or circumstance.
Once you have seen through the illusion of the world inside your head, which is what enlightenment is, you can no longer cling to any particular story about reality, which includes a religious identity or point of view. Instead, you find yourself honoring, equally, the core of truth and goodness in all religions. However, you may well choose to worship or express your love of the Divine through a particular religion.
The path to true freedom is not incompatible with going to church, the mosque, or to temple. In fact, the freer you get of your own story, and of attachment to ideas and images of “self,” the more clearly you’ll understand and relate to the heart of the great spiritual and religious teachings. You just won’t get lost in all the dogma, the rules and restrictions, the guilt-tripping. Meister Eckhart, the fifteenth century German mystic, had clearly realized his true nature, but he continued to be a Christian preacher. The Dalai Lama is a contemporary example of an awakened human being who, because of destiny, finds himself espousing the cause of Tibetan Buddhism
For a growing number of us throughout the world, however, the deeper our own inquiry into the true nature of God and creation, and the greater our own hunger for true inner peace and freedom, the less satisfied we are with attaching to any form of belief or story. We want the experience of awakening, of enlightenment, now.
For that to happen, we must get fully and alertly present now, see all our stories and beliefs for what they are, mere objects in consciousness, and realize that what we fundamentally are is the consciousness which sees.

There is a difference though, between mystical traditions and Buddhism... although it is subtle.

In fact, I see him as sharing what he learnt and knows. It has been an interesting read, and will continue to be so. There is no need to get so defensive about your religion, I don't think there is anyone here is discredit your beliefs.
Yes, you can tell people what you believe, but can you tell people how they will end up in eternity? Are you God? So once you tell people how they will end up in eternity, you are presuming that you are God. No man can speak for God, he can only speak for himself.Originally posted by alien2:Thanks CK..
for believers but
I know only myself..I don't need to presume when I >>>>>>>>> relate to God..
it's a relationship U never will know unless U 2 r a believer

You can say: I believe that I will go to hell if this and that.
You cannot say: You will go to hell if this and that.
See the difference?
Just a couple of things.... the Buddhists teach Enlightenment; not simply believing in a set of procedures.Originally posted by alien2:CK so sorry i 've to go to J.B. for my dental
