advice to all buddhists.....

it is not enough to attain calm and peacfulness in life....
it is necessary condition of getting a good life but insufficient.
after becoming acalm and objective person, you have to ask yourself, what can i do to improve my life? what is there to improve?
as you all know, strength from one person is always quite small compared to strength of unity. therefore, the largest amount of strength will come from the ability to convince and influence people to your beliefs so that a team can be created. your goals as a team must also be right too.
the problem with buddhism and buddhists, is that they just know how to lead peaceful life but it is not good enough. they do not usually maximse their potential, and improve on their influening skills.
instead, they preach on accepting differences and living in harmony. this is right is a certain sense, but if you want to improve life to yourself and as a whole society, you have to also change wrong beliefs of others so that you can create a viable force.
hence, i think buddhists they still have a lot of improvements which they fail to see. -

err.... actually... i m not sure about this.... buddhism is never a religion for me but it is a teaching/philosophy that i agree very much with.... about compassion, peace, respect, motivation, acceptance, karma etc.... but then, i dont think it says that we cannot strive to be the best we can b?? i think i always have dreams and i m rather pro-active in trying to have fulfil them.... if u r talking about letting go of desires and such.... well.... i see it as trying my best to do things i want to do, enjoying the journey as i go along and well, if i do not achieve what i 'desired', i just have to accept it and move on! ha....
mayb i m not as 'buddhist' as what many feel then.... but does it really matter? hmm.... not to me!

Tzu Chi Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1966 by Dharma Master Cheng Yen in the impoverished east coast of Taiwan. Tzu Chi was built in 1966 on a foundation of love and that remains our core mission today. Love is all-powerful; it can soothe and calm a fretful and disquieted heart, as well as heal the wounds inflicted by calamities.
The hope of humanity lies in mutual help. In times of crisis or suffering, Tzu Chi volunteers are like a beacon of light. They bring hope and inspire others with their generous spirit and unconditional care. Love is the sole driving force in their mission; they are givers of love, food, care, shelter, and clothing, anything that will alleviate suffering. Yes, I do agree with you that we need to further improve our quality of life. And I strongly believe that all Buddhist communities in the recent years have strived very hard to do this with obvious achievements. Nevertheless, it is also very important that we MUST NOT lose our core essentials: PEACE, HARMONY, RESPECT, tolerable and acceptable to different views and beliefs.
It is also important to see as a WHOLE, a family of different race, religion and belief-system living together. Not just for ourselves, but also for many generations to come. Diversity is to stay.
I perfectly agree with you about unity. A unity of different Buddhism schools, Faith, Race, Belief-System for the goodness of all mankind. We should learn about the good from each other. For example, the Establishment of honourable "World Vision" from the Christian organisation. Dalia Lama, Mother Theresa, Gandi are few other extraordinary individuals we can emulate. In Singapore, we also have Theresa HSU.

If people have wrong views about Buddhism, we must definitely try to change them according to the Yuan.

While I share the same sentiment as you, I do have to point out that other religions also promised calm and peaceful life to their followers.
My observation of the buddhists in general is they are rather unwilling to step forward to correct the wrong perceptions of buddhism others might have, and always keeps a very low profile, pretty much reluctant to participate in the shaping of the community. Just my 2 cents worth of comment. -
