Is there any differnece between taosim and buddhism

This question has been bothering me recently,
my paternal side is taoist, my maternal side is buddhist, =/
do they all follow the same teachings?
what i have heard is that they perform different forms of prayer,
like to worship ancestors, my father would sometimes serve chicken,rice and fruits etc.
But for buddism, they offer lotus and fruits only
(all this info maybe wrong correct me ok? New at this...)

Ancestor worship is not part of Buddhism, but we do pay our respects to our ancestors.
The Taoist teachings taught by Lao-Tzu, Chuang Tzu, etc are deep and profound and similar to Buddhism. However the modern form of religious Taoism is not the same as Buddhism, so you need to know the difference. (pls see my posts in the Buddhism & Taoism topic) -

That's great. Ancestor worship is an integral and important part of Chinese culture. Preserve it at all cost. It is a worldly form of respect and gratitude to remember our forefathers.
