Do not think that the knowledge you presently possess is changeless, absolute truth. Avoid being narrow-minded and bound to present views. Learn and practice non-attachment from views in order to be open to receive others' viewpoints. Truth is found in life and not merely in conceptual knowledge. Be ready to learn throughout our entire life and to observe reality in yourself and in the world at all times.
Do not force others, including children, by any means whatsoever, to adopt your views, whether by authority, threat, money, propaganda, or even education. However, through compassionate dialogue, help others renounce fanaticism and narrowness.

zen is seeing your true nature ,the true nature that All Buddhas relied upon
In a dharma assembly , Buddha Sakyamuni did not speak a word .The assembly was inpatient and start to talk among themselves .Buddha Sakyamuni hold a flower in his hand and smile to the assembly .
Maha Kasyapa understood the meaning of the Buddha smile
Dharma is transmitted beyond words

My comprehension is, since the truths and paths are merely guidelines....i can find liberation on my own by discarding these also. No need to follow what, becoz in life i can find my own way.
Guidelines are still important because without guidelines you will not know how to start.Originally posted by laoda99:My comprehension is, since the truths and paths are merely guidelines....i can find liberation on my own by discarding these also. yes ,or else will be crazy zen , and those who dun follow guidelines ,far from achieving enlightenment ,but becomes a new cult leaderOriginally posted by An Eternal Now:Guidelines are still important because without guidelines you will not know how to start.
For example some people think that by drinking alcohol it will bring 'liberation', but this is not liberation but suppressing it and it will come up again.
Therefore the Buddha, from his own Experiences having been enlightened and liberated, shows us the way to liberation.
To add on: Indeed, guidelines are like signposts that direct us to Truth, but liberation and enlightenment is still personal. No one can do the liberation for us other than ourselves.Originally posted by An Eternal Now:Guidelines are still important because without guidelines you will not know how to start.
