humans are born omnivores.
[/b]agreed.Originally posted by coolbluewater:Though it's not something new, it still serves a good reminder to people, especially meat eaters, that the sentient beings are suffering because of our greed and desires.
after reading your first paragraph i thought you are a vegetarian.Originally posted by paperflower:agreed.
some people will still argue that eating meat has been going on for many donkey years and some people will back up saying they offer prayers to the poor animals when they get slaughtered. it's not us suffering, its the animals suffering badly for who? for us - our consumption! on the other hand, it is also us suffering..... what goes around comes around.
can this be stopped?
sigh....... at least not much for now.
i have been thinking about becoming a vegetarian. it is not because of the videos i watched.

In India a large fraction (arnd 30%) of their population is vegetarians, with another 30% being only 'occasional meat eaters'I think many of them do not think that 'humans are born omnivores'. Therefore many Hindus are also vegetarians, having the doctrine of Ahimsa (nonviolence) derived from Buddhism millenias back. How I wished this kind of culture will spread throughout the world. I believe in the future there will be one day that civilisation reaches such an advancement that our entire humanity will adopt a vegetarian diet.

No meat is safe from disease and outbreaks of viruses from animals will be increasingly frequent. Maybe the only kind of meat that is safer is fish but even that will not be entirely safe considering the rate we pollute the earth and oceans.Originally posted by laurence82:And outbreaks of H5N1, Nipah virus etc from animals are due to the fact farmers dont rear them in a hygienic and humane environment
Slaughtering? Improper slaugtering methods leads to outbreak of virus such as E.Coli in beef. Thats what a friend who read Fast Food Nation told me. And the book refers to Macdonald
There will be a movie on this coming up, also by the same title, Fast Food Nation.
Yes, but we still can take steps to prevent themOriginally posted by An Eternal Now:No meat is safe from disease and outbreaks of viruses from animals will be increasingly frequent. Why not start to manage our desire and diet first? Lesser demand for meat = lesser animals being reared to be slaughtered.Originally posted by laurence82:Yes, but we still can take steps to prevent them
H5N1 is a good example of mismanaged farms.

Here's some statistics to share :
1) Millions of human beings in less-developed countries go hungry just so that a tiny minority of people can eat meat.
2) 75% of Third World imports of corn, barley, sorghum, and oats are fed to animals, not to hungry people.
3) More than 80% of corn and 95% of oats grown in US are fed to livestock in US.
4) The grains and soybeans that are fed to US livestock could feed 1.3 billion people.
5) The worldÂ’s cattle alone consume a quantity of food enough to feed more than the entire human population on Earth.
6) It takes 16 kg of grains to produce 1 kg of beef; as such, a person eating a meal of beef is depriving 15 other men from filling their stomach.
7) The same area of land can feed 20 times as many people eating a vegetarian diet than a meat diet.Never before in human history has such a large percentage, 25%, of our own human species been malnourished; never before has as great a percentage of human race been overweight.

Yes that is also very importantOriginally posted by laurence82:I am more of a realistic person
Not that I am against slaughtering of animals, having seen inhumane treatment of videos shown at Guang Ming Shan Temple. But I believe its almost impossible to curb all desires of all humans, so its more practical to enforce hygienic and safe environment for the animals, including human slaughtering methods.
