Here's his description of his enlightenment...
"I was walking to work, alongside the Sengawa river, just like every day, when in an instant I got it. Every damned thing I'd ever read in a Buddhist book was confirmed that day. The Universe was me and I was the Universe. I looked up at the sky and it was exactly like looking at a mirror. I don't mean that metaphorically either. You know the feeling of recognition you get when you look in a mirror? That's me, you say. Well I got that feeling no matter where I looked. There was no doubt that this state was true. I had no need to confirm it with anyone. And this state has stayed with me ever since then. Even if I want to put it down I can't. Sometimes it's painful. Buddha was a spoiled rich kid who wanted the magic powers that the Hindu Ascetics were acquiring but was not willing to believe what the Hindus believed in order to get them.
Finally he just gave up and said that there was just NOTHING. His Nirvana was just nihilistic cynacism presented in religious wrappings. it would have all been forgotten, but when Buddha gave up his asceticism and decided to become a Fat Man, he went into the Cities and Business Communities where the Merchants and the Businessmen were just TOO GLAD to sponsor the message that they had every excuse to abandon Religion. Buddhism was sponsored by those who wanted to react against the Hindu Caste system -- Buddhism was essentially an Anti-Brahmin Revolt.
Now, anybody who looks at this original Buddhism, called hanayan or Small Wheel Buddhism, can clearly discern the atheistic and cynical tendencies of this philosophy. its no Religion.
Ofcourse, as the centuries went by, Religious Forces were able to penetrate into Buddhism and prevail. Often enough in History we see Evil insinuate into Good Institutions and ruin them. Well, the fight goes both ways. In this case Religion was able to take back Buddhism with Mahayana, or Big Wheel Buddhism.
Likewise, with Catholicism, which started entirely as Paulist Antichristism, but was significantly influenced by Goddess Religion Marianism and Ascetic Spirituality, so that there is hardly any better instance of Religious Spirituality anywhere but that can be found in the Catholic Religious Orders. It is unfortunate that what goes on in these Religious Orders is mostly kept confidential... even secret. -

The Atheism forum by 'january' has started a new topic: what is buddhism evidence of reincarnation?
As I am very very busy these days, I aint got time to do the explanation and discuss... what's more, there are already several topics in his forum and my forum discussing/debating about this which I think is quite sufficient.
Nevertheless, I would like to invite all knowledgeable Buddhists to take part in this discussion. I will join in when I have the time... which will probably not be until the end of this week... -

'Enlightenment' was nice in the beginning but when it turned rap, it sounded dry & monotonous..... (for me), and i couldn't quite catch the lines.

Went to the Buddhist Art Museum Nei Xue Tang on Vesak Day. Very touched upon seeing Master Hsu Yun's robe, almost cry.
Go and take a look and maybe you will know what I mean. But must be fast cos the robe will be returned after 14 jun.
There are many other awesome exhibits too, just looking at them gave me peace of mind. There is also one that make me smile, a Tang Dynasty stone slab carving of a reclining Buddha with His 10 disciples and a tiny dog. -

This piece brought a smile to my face becos I felt the true meaning of "equality to all living things": A smiling Buddha is reclining infront with His 10 disciples sitting crossed-leg attentively behind; then this tiny dog lying leisurely by the Buddha's feet, looking at Him, ignoring the rest. I could also feltl the message of Compassion, cos Buddha is smiling at the dog. -
