Should i get a Kumanthong?

I want a Kumanthong but I am a Buddhist.Can I?
I heard Kumanthong is made by Monks. So is it ok if i get one? Not against buddhist teachings,right? -
It is against my Buddhist teachers teachings to build any of such affinity with spirits...
I am not aware Buddha said anything about this, but generally it is known that being humans we do not want to have any kind of affinity with these kind of beings.
Buddha already made it very clear in the Suttas that we must choose wise company and friends. -

I really need an opinion here as i m rather confused as I am unsure if Buddhism allows . Zacken's thread suggest that Kumantongs are created by buddhist monks,so it should be ok right? -

Frankly speaking, keeping a kumanthong for wealth and protection is not encouraged. You must understand that Kumanthongs are spirits from unborned child, who haboured anger and hatred. Made by monks does not necessarily mean endorsed by Buddha or accepted by Buddhist community. Thai Buddhism has a very deep cultural attachment to Brahmanistic practises, that is not Buddhist.
If you ask me about Theravada/Thai Buddhism, I would prefer to refer them to the Thai Forest Tradition, which is a pure tradition not affected by all those cultural attachment and is purely on dharma. This tradition is known to produce many modern day arhants.

The Thai Forest tradition is one branch of the Theravada Buddhist tradition. Theravada Buddhism, also known as the Southern School of Buddhism, is present throughout Thailand, Burma, and Sri Lanka. Kumanthong is certainly not under Thai Buddhism (you may like to look into the history of how Kumanthong came about, it is not from Buddhism), but because there are many people who are into this kind of stuff, therefore there are some monks who cater to this kind of stuff.Originally posted by waliao:Kumanthong is under Thai Buddhism? It's hard cos there has not been much progress in the situation, I happened to chance upon the article on Kumangtong by the other Buddhist forum SOA . Thought it might be a good method as it was said to bring prosperity n at e same time good karma. Willing to try anything to make e business better cos is inhrited from my father. Dun want it to fold. -
