so im supposed to keep thinking "OMG IM AGEING HELP ME STOP IT PLZ"Originally posted by An Eternal Now:You know intellectually you are ageing, similarly a 5 year old child can intellectually understand that he is ageing, but a 5 year old child is not concerned because his body does not exhibit any signs of old age. He is more concerned of playing with his toys.
Old folks taken care of also suffers if he is not feeling well and is diseased, etc. He no longer has the vitality of the past to do what he wants like in his youth. He is simply old, many of them waiting for their death.Originally posted by Cenarious:old folks in old folks home are sad only because their children abandon them. and buddhism cannot remove physical pain just mental suffering.
No, you cant stop ageing (physically). As I mentioned earlier, one needs to recognise it, then transcend it now. Start practising the dharma now and do not waver. Transcend doesnt mean your body stops ageing, but you "do not age with your body". Similarly if you are detached, at death, "you do not die along with your body". If you think that the body and death is real and still fear death at death, then you have "died along with your body".Originally posted by Cenarious:so im supposed to keep thinking "OMG IM AGEING HELP ME STOP IT PLZ"
i think everyone knows that when you are old you are supposed to be weaker so they should have been mentally prepared. physical disease is not suffering becos buddha also had a headache but he didnt suffer. most old people will feel contented to have just their children being good to them.Originally posted by An Eternal Now:Old folks taken care of also suffers if he is not feeling well and is diseased, etc. He no longer has the vitality of the past to do what he wants like in his youth. where is this "I" to not die along with my body?Originally posted by An Eternal Now:No, you cant stop ageing (physically). As I mentioned earlier, one needs to recognise it, then transcend it now. Of course there are always those old people who have good karma and relatively less problems than others, but nevertheless there will be things that he worry about due to his old age.Originally posted by Cenarious:i think everyone knows that when you are old you are supposed to be weaker so they should have been mentally prepared. physical disease is not suffering becos buddha also had a headache but he didnt suffer. most old people will feel contented to have just their children being good to them.
The "I" exists in all these attachment, names and forms, thoughts, emotions, etc. When there is "I", there will be gain and loss, worries, anxiety, all forms of mental negativities, resistance, aversion to things and events. Basically whatever you identify with becomes your "I" - body, personality, thoughts, etc. The "I" is illusory, so if you want to be freed from birth and death, rebirth, etc, the bond of "I" must go.Originally posted by Cenarious:where is this "I" to not die along with my body?
5 The Distress of Unfulfilled Desiresdont you think my topic about beauty and lack thereof is refering to this?
Many agree that it is human nature to ceaselessly crave for more. This craving or greed, however, causes frustration and sufferings when our cravings are not met or our desires unfulfilled. Especially, if we carry our greed to an unlawful extent, and when caught, have to experience mental as well as physical punishment.
Yes. But if the attitude is "i dont want to be ugly like him/her" that is wrong. The correct attitude is "i want to be free from all bondage to ideas of ugliness/beauty, of comparison, etc"Originally posted by Cenarious:dont you think my topic about beauty and lack thereof is refering to this?
I am already ugly.Originally posted by An Eternal Now:Yes. But if the attitude is "i dont want to be ugly like him/her" that is wrong. The correct attitude is "i want to be free from all sufferings due to the bondage to ideas of ugliness/beauty, of comparison, etc"
Ok same.Originally posted by Cenarious:I am already ugly.
so there is no "I", but you are telling "me" to not die with my body?Originally posted by An Eternal Now:The "I" exists in all these attachment, names and forms, thoughts, emotions, etc. When there is "I", there will be gain and loss, worries, anxiety, all forms of mental negativities, resistance, aversion to things and events. When you identify body as "I", or your possessions, personality etc, then what you perceive to be your own existence will be in danger of ending, and that causes great suffering.Originally posted by Cenarious:so there is no "I", but you are telling "me" to not die with my body?
where is the "you" to identify?Originally posted by An Eternal Now:When you identify body as "I"

I don't mean there is really a "you" that identifies. That is just a conventional mean of saying.Originally posted by Cenarious:where is the "you" to identify?
