Hi all,
I'm pretty much a novice in buddhism and am opening my doors in learning and practising the teaching of the great one, buddha. I have read that chanting of sutra can help eliminate negative karma and generate good merits. May i know which sutra would be best for healing the sick?
[b]Great Compassion Mantra - Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva (Guan Yin)?
Bodhisattva Kishitigarbha (Di Zhan Wang Pu Sa)?
Medicine Buddha?
My father is critically ill and i would like to know how can i help in anyway to alleviate his pain and agony?
Thank you for your kind attention and look forward to hearing from you soon.
Warm Regards,

Erm, is this reply meant for the topic on rules of reading sutra? If so can you pls remove this here and post in respective thread thanks...Originally posted by crescent:Isnt books and sutras just physical items? Its the state of ur mind when you are reading that matters... Hard to imagine what one's state of mind is when hitting the john... Similarly, the individual mind might drift when lying down, (that position is hard to sustain as well)... Its not about having respect for the book.. its about having respect for the teachings inside the book... and whether the physical body when acting as a medium in bridging ur mind to the truth, accommodate realisation...

"concerned_man" :
1) I have went vegetarian for a few months for him already.
2) I would appreciate if you can kindly recommand where can i get a copy of "DiZhangPuSa BenYuanJing" - 101 VCDs by Master Chin Kung.
I have heard that DiZhangWang suttra is very powerful and is not recommanded to recite it at home?
"path_seeker" :
1) My family and I have done all that we can to help and allevaite his suffering. As you have mentioned, offerings to the Buddha, like lamp, fruit or money to the monastaries. you name it, we have done it.
"crescent" :
1) Please advice what are the right way and things to observe when chanting suttra?
I'm aware that one must respect the content of the suttra and it's power, i usually sit cross-legged on the floor when chanting. When i do some reading and surfing on the internet, i'm usually on a lie down position with my notebook, is this an act of disrespect?
"Passions" :
1) Thank you for your advice, my family offer to taoist dieties at home, can i place the glass of water in front of the alter or can i place in on the table where i sit for my recitation?
2) The Amitabha Buddha suttra is only "NaMoAMiTuoFo" right?
