If you cannot concentrate, try taking frequent but short breaks. This helps to breakup the chunks of "concentration time" into more manageable bits...Originally posted by Isis:Hi all,
Me have a problem. My brain don't register what im studying on now.. i feel easily distracted and most of the time restless when it come to reading my notes, feeling not-stressful now ( which is a bad thing ) now esp the exam is around the corner..then there is always this karmic force going on, it seems that everytime when exam is here, i will have many "mara" coming after me.. tempt me not to study and break my concentration and.... past demon come and haunt me...

Focus and concentration is key in studying.
If these 'mara' come only when you are studying and not in other times like playing or enjoying yourself in other things, it is probably because there is an inner aversion to studying, a mental thought 'how boring can that be'.
I suggest you watch your mind if there is any kind of aversion to studying, and if there is, learn to drop them and let go of them. Your heart must be there, you must be willing to study, like you are willing to do other things like watching TV, etc. Learn to enjoy studying. It doesn't need to be boring, it is only boring to the ego. The ego is always trying to escape what is present... it seeks something other than what is happening now. It wants to do other things or think of other things rather than studying. Always the 'self' that is causing problem. Therefore when studying, it is important to let go of the ego and the 'self' - there is no one studying, therefore no problem.
A summary: Don't force yourself to study. Study wholeheartedly without self. There is no question of overcoming or resisting the self when the self is absent.

Humans are very fearful & lazy inside. Like what you are now, Fear of exam & Lazyness crawl in.
The more you come/understand into Buddhism the more simple your mind will be.
Well...Who's notOriginally posted by Isis:Hi, just to share some opinion of mine.
I could say incorporating buddhism teachings into daily life is a form of practise. Depending on each individual with his or her karma, their dharma door could be different. Personally, I believe anyone can learn Buddhism.
For me, i think i should focus on practising on the eightfold path at this stage of life. i have my weakness-> restless mind, burst of short temper at time, lust?, laziness: im still trying to get out of this karmic patterns of habits. Buddhism helps me alot in this way.
Well, actually I'm glad that i have a problem with studying, with the 'self'.. cos it offers an opportunity for me to learn.. focusing on the half-glass full. Frankly, i have been plagued by this problems and it giving me sorrow and unhappiness; having a ripple sort of karmic effects.
Who wants to suffer? Who aren't perfect here?
However, my heart is still restless and yearning to see the world. Perhaps when i have through: aging, dieases, death, sorrow, love, happiness, lust... perhaps i could learn to see things simplier..

after 5 min break, i could extend to 10 min then 20min..Originally posted by TYING:I went to this learning workshop. They say that a person's attention span can last for the most 25 mins if he is doing something that is not interesting to him. So maybe you study for 25 mins, take a break of 5 mins will produce better results.
Or maybe you can link what ur studying into a story of your own interest. I tried that countless time and it always work.
Lol, then make it turn into a test of self discipline.Originally posted by Isis:after 5 min break, i could extend to 10 min then 20min..
Procrastinating...
if the heart is not willing to study, it is rather difficult to study and turn it into a self discipline thingy..Originally posted by TYING:Lol, then make it turn into a test of self discipline.
Dyslexia or Reading Disorder is defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders DSM-IV as reading achievement that falls substantially below expected levels given an individual's age and education. The reading deficit should be sufficiently severe as to interfere with everyday activities requiring reading (e.g., schoolwork or employment). Finally, the reading deficit cannot be strictly due to a sensory disorder; for instance, it cannot be strictly due to vision problems that prevent an individual from seeing words on a page.Originally posted by Isis:er there wasn't what u really wrote before la... read above...
Dyslexic is more of is letter-sound associations than letter arrangement
"Ding4 li4" not enough... but must keep practising... it's like a training. Also when your thoughts come... don't take it seriously, just stop attending to it. I mentioned in the forum 2 days ago how I was so obsessed with the situation in my dream that I felt angry and stressed... like it seem so real. Suddenly it came to my mind it is all an illusion, all I have to do is to stop attending to it, and bring my attention to present moment awareness. True enough, when I stopped attending to it, I just woke up. As for sleepiness, it can be overcome if your mind is alert, and you are mindful.Originally posted by Isis:Hi all, just an update...
Firstly, i learn not to hate study .. in fact i hate it so much. But then thoughts are always wandering away to other stuffs, mood unsettled. External distraction such as the hot weather dampen my mood to study, make me sleeply and rainy weather also make me sleepy. How can i maintain my concentration? i always have this problem in retaining a clear imagine in my mind....
In addition, i did try to be more aware when im studying. I observe thoughts wander and i gently ask the thoughts to come each time it wanders off, bt it can't maintain for long...
any advice here?
